position description 

The Vice President of Communications and Marketing will advance the vision of PBGH by shaping and executing strategies that promote, educate, engage, and influence key audiences while fostering commitment to action among key PBGH stakeholders and members through various communication mediums. This role elevates PBGH’s presence, strengthens its reputation as a trusted voice, and ensures alignment of communication and marketing strategies with organizational goals and the broader healthcare landscape. 

 

As a senior advisor to the CEO and executive team, the Vice President of Communications and Marketing will develop forward-looking communication strategies and delivers them directly. This role is responsible for crafting strategy and execution plan, drafting content, building visibility, and amplifying PBGH’s leadership role in health care transformation.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  •  Develop and lead the overall vision for communications and marketing, while personally executing high-impact projects and deliverables.  

  • Translate organizational priorities into actionable initiatives, partnering with senior leadership and program teams to strategically plan initiatives while personally delivering key outputs.  

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and leadership, ensuring communication efforts advance organizational priorities and strategic goals.  

  • Create and deliver executive-level stakeholder engagement strategies including external (member, customers, funders, general public) facing communications and organizational marketing materials to elevate PBGH’s presence and platform.  

  • Shape and elevate PBGH’s brand identity and voice across all platforms including media stories, op-eds, website development, and social media engagement. 

  • Develop and execute on national health policy advocacy initiatives in collaboration with PBGH leadership, policy experts, funders, and members.  

  • Leverage external partnerships and supervise work from communication consultants, media, and design professionals. 

  • Manage and represent PBGH externally at member events, board meetings, industry events, and conferences. 

  • Lead internal communications, ensuring clarity, alignment, awareness and commitment to PBGH’s mission, goals and outcomes. 

  • Produce compelling communications for fundraising, supporting PBGH leaders with writing grant and funding proposals. 

  • Model servant leadership of PBGH values in everyday interaction with staff, customers, members, and stakeholders. Puts the good of the organization above own personal agenda and interests. Manages and achieves department budget and key metrics. Demonstrate executive leadership while remaining hands-on, embodying both strategic foresight and day-to-day delivery. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PRIOR EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree or 15-20+ years’ experience in communication, marketing, or related discipline in the health care industry required. Experience working with employers/healthcare purchasers or employer coalitions in the healthcare industry strongly preferred. 

  • Deep expertise in strategic communication marketing, public relations, and brand management with proven ability to translate organizational goals into compelling narratives and measurable outcomes.  

  • Exceptional writing, copy editing, and storytelling skills across multiple mediums (digital, print, video, audio and social) with ability to tailor content to support the organization’s needs across various audiences.  

  • Demonstrated success in thought leadership development and executive partnership. Strong executive presence and ability to serve as an organizational spokesperson with credibility and influence.  

  • High-degree of emotional intelligence, adaptability and influenceSkilled in stakeholder engagement and relationship management, including working with executives, funders, and the Board and inspiring confidence and collaboration across teams.  

  • Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal, written, verbal, oral and listening communication skills.  

  • Experience serving as a trusted advisor to CEOs, Boards, and senior leadership. 

  • Demonstrated critical thinking capability with people at all levels of an organization.  Strong, collaborative problem-solving skills with ability to see the big picture as well as the granular steps to execute effectively. 

  • Motivated, self-starter, proactive with a strong work ethic and ability to work and deliver work products in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Prior success in roles requiring both strategic vision and hands-on execution 

  • Experience with media relations, advocacy communication, and public positioning at the national level strongly preferred.  

  •  Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Salesforce, social media, and project management software. 

  • Ability to travel occasionally.  

The Vice President of Communications and Marketing work location is flexible within the United States. The role is a full-time, 100% work-from-home position.

COMPENSATION
